Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson is a distinguished lifelong educator and instructional architect dedicated to creating educational environments where all children can reach their optimum potential. From July 2015 to August 31, 2024, she served as Superintendent of Oakland County Schools, where she oversaw the academic achievement of more than 200,000 students across twenty-eight public school districts and twenty-two public service academies.
During her tenure as Superintendent, Dr. Cook-Robinson led an organization focused on providing comprehensive educational services through Oakland Schools Technical campuses, Early College programs, project-based and blended-learning initiatives, as well as specialized programs for children with special needs and early childhood education.
A long-time mentor to fellow educators, Dr. Cook-Robinson co-founded, and is a Past President of, the Minority Women’s Network, which supports women and educators of color across the county returning to school to complete degrees in higher education. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Southeastern Michigan; the Foundation Board for the Association of Educational Service Agencies; the Board of Directors for the Cranbrook Institute of Science; Board member Michigan Schools & Government Credit Union, Board member School Finance Research Foundation, and currently is the Executive Director of the Urban Superintendents Association of America.
Dr. Cook-Robinson has received a number of accolades, both as a leader in education and as a dedicated community member, including being named to the Crain’s Detroit Business list of the Most influential Women in the State of Michigan, the School Superintendent’s Association’s 2019 Women in School Leadership Award, the 2018 Dr. Effie Jones Humanitarian Award, the “Michigan Superintendent of the Year” award, the Wayne State University College of Education Alumni Association’s “Distinguished Educator” award, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Southfield Alumnae Chapter’s “Educator of the Year” award, and the Professor Arthur Brown Endowed Memorial Award from Wayne State University.
Dr. Cook-Robinson holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Development and Supervision from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education from Michigan State University.
