Mike Hill is an Upper Peninsula native, graduating from Newberry High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Saginaw Valley State University and a Master of Arts in educational leadership from Central Michigan University. His 32-year career in education has provided many positive experiences. Mike has served in many roles as an educator, including teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. Serving the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District as Superintendent for 11 years was the highlight of his career. During his time there, a new vision, mission and goals, combined with a new strategic plan, brought the five-county area to success. New construction and renovations also brought state of the art facilities to the region. Mike conducted dozens of Superintendent evaluations throughout the region and worked closely with local school boards to build relationships in support of board members and their leadership.

During his career, Mike was honored with numerous awards, including being recognized as a MASA Regional Superintendent of the Year, a Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Educator, and the Mary Lee Lord Collaborator of the Year Award. He is also a past board member for the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, the Michigan Association of School Administrators and the Michigan Community Service Commission.

Mike is excited to utilize his experiences to serve and support school communities across Michigan, and is honored to serve with the Michigan Leadership Institute.
