Teresa Weatherall Neal served as the Superintendent of Grand Rapids Public Schools for seven years. She specializes in organizational growth, leadership development, and system-wide transformational change. Weatherall Neal is extremely proud of her work as the CEO of Grand Rapids Public Schools, which serves 18,000 public, private and charter students, has over 3,000 employees, and an annual budget of over $300 million. Her leadership experience includes advancing private/public partnerships, stabilizing and growing an urban system to create systemic change leading to a decrease in chronic absenteeism, increasing academic achievement, dual enrollment, and the graduation rate, along with opening new schools, passing a $175 million bond, A+ bond rating, and internship opportunities.
Teresa received an Honorary Doctorate of Education from Grand Valley State University, Master of Educational Leadership from Western Michigan, Bachelor of Science in Public Administration, and Associate Degree from Grand Rapids Community College. She is also a graduate of the Michigan Leadership Institute's Superintendent Leadership Academy and has completed extensive course work and educational sessions with Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, Adaptive Leadership with Cambridge Leadership Development, and the Institute for Learning through the University of Pittsburg. Her professional training includes 15 years of grant and compliance development with state and federal programs.
Weatherall Neal is very active in her community. She currently serves on numerous boards in including Spectrum Healthier Communities, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, President Gerald R. Ford Foundation, KConnect Community Board, Downtown Grand Rapids Development Board, and the Governor’s Educational Committee. She has received recognition and awards from local, state, and national entities for her leadership accomplishments.
