John Scholten, Ed.D. joined the MLI Team in 2021. During his 37-year career in education, Dr. Scholten served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, athletic director, community school director and superintendent of schools.  He served his entire career in Michigan with the last 23 years proudly served as Superintendent of Schools for the Maple City-Glen Lake Community Schools (9 years) and the Public Schools of Petoskey (14 years).


Dr. Scholten also served as an adjunct instructor for Central Michigan University teaching courses at the Educational Specialist level in Educational Leadership 
and School Management throughout Michigan and in Atlanta, Georgia.

Throughout his career, Dr. Scholten has been active in professional and service organizations.  He is past President of MASA Region 2, served on numerous MASA and MASSP committees and was an active member of NCA Accreditation teams.  His community service included but was not limited to President of the Petoskey Rotary Club, United Way Campaign Leader, Lion’s Club of Empire, American Red Cross Regional Board, Greater Grand Traverse Affordable Housing Committee and Petoskey Education Foundation Board.

Dr. Scholten earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his master’s, specialist and doctoral degree from Central Michigan University, all in educational leadership.
