Retired superintendent and MLI
Consultant. He began his 33-year career
in education as a teacher in the Fenton Area Public Schools. His first leadership position was as a
building principal in the Grand Blanc Community Schools. In an effort to be closer to his young
family, Tim accepted a building principal position in the Flushing Community
Schools where he and his family resided.
After a successful stint as a building principal in Flushing, he was
promoted to Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. After four years in that position, Stein
became Assistant Superintendent for Personnel, Labor Relations and
Operations. When the Superintendent
position opened, Tim was hired by the Board of Education to become the next
Superintendent of the Flushing Community Schools, a position he held for 10
years until his retirement. He credits
his success to always staying focused on what was in the best interest of
students and finding quality staff that shared his focus.
Tim
has experience/expertise with personnel and labor relations, building staff
morale, professional mentoring, strategic planning, school improvement and
accreditation, facility maintenance and improvement planning, energy bonding,
running successful bond campaigns, succession planning, and building successful
board relations.
During
his time as superintendent he held several leadership positions including,
Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA) Region V President, MASA
Region V Vice President, MASA Region V Secretary/Treasurer and was a MASA
Council member. He also was honored to
serve as Genesee County Superintendent’s Association President for two terms.
Tim has undergraduate and graduate degrees from Michigan State University. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends in Northern Michigan. His hobbies include golf, boating, and skiing when he is not rooting for his beloved Spartans.
